Advice for 9 year old daughter

Thu, 01/30/2020 - 16:05
Hi, I’m not sure who to speak to as I still feel a bit confused. Last night when I went to bed my daughter was asleep, I noticed she’d suffered a nose bleed, woke her to clean her in the bathroom and whilst in there she had a full on seizure, her eyes rolled back, body collapsed and started fitting, when she came around she was very confused and had no idea what had happened. She got taken to hospital, was monitored for several hrs and had no concerns around observations, just concussion over the nose bleed (she doesn’t normally have them) and then a seizure. She’s booked to see the seizure clinic and there was mention of possible epilepsy. The night before her seizure she slept walked and talked and was making no sense, again tonight she has just walked downstairs sleepwalking and talking making no sense, when she came round she was very confused and had no idea how she got down stairs. I’m so so worried about her, could her sleepwalking (there have been other instances, along with talking a bit aggressive in her sleep) be linked to the seizure she had last night? I didn’t mention the sleepwalking as thought nothing of it. Also the nosebleed, could that indicate that she’d already had a seizure before I found her? And then she had another? Many thanks, grateful for any advice

Hi, Thank you for posting, we understand this must be very scary and confusing for you all to experience. We are glad to hear that your daughter was taken to the hospital for further evaluation and is schedule for additional follow-up testing at a seizure clinic. We cannot determine what caused her seizure, so it’s important that you all are continuing to follow-up with her healthcare team for review this further and if she experiences any changes in seizure types/frequency, moods, behaviors or symptoms to help determine what individual treatment plan is best for her. Documenting this experience and her seizures in detail, (like you’ve done in your post), and providing a thorough family & medical history (if possible), will be very helpful to review with her doctors. My Seizure Diary: https://www.epilepsy.com/living-epilepsy/epilepsy-foundation-my-seizure-diaryis a great tool for tracking and identify seizures, setting reminders, managing medications & side effects, recording medical history, moods, behaviors, triggers, and other therapies or personal experiences, that may affect wellness and seizures, which can be shared with her healthcare team. Our new to Epilepsy & Seizure tool kit is a great resource and starting point for learning about what epilepsy is, what resources are available, how to make the most of doctors' visits, and how to take control of seizures, seizure first aid & safety.
