Need Suggestions For Seizure Alert Devices and a Baby Monitor to record night time seizures

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 21:33
Hello, My son has very recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. 2 weeks ago he had a seizure in his room and fell and broke his 2 front teeth. I am so worried that I have even been making him stand beside the bathroom door when I have to use the bathroom if no one else is home. I am interested to find out if anyone has used the seizure alert watches or any apps. I am also looking for suggestions on a monitor that can record, I think he has been having seizures in his sleep but of course I am sleeping at the same time. I bought an iNanny camera monitor that comes with the screen and also wifi so that I can view from my phone while he is being babysat for peace of mind but it doesn't record. Please feel free to share any suggestions parents have for safety.

Hi, sorry to hear about your child. My mother was recently diagnosed and I have been battling with the same need for a monitor however I can suggest a heart or pulse monitor with a alert mechanism I don’t know if it exists. I know you get different devices for athletes and so on but it only makes sense because with the onset of a seziure the heart rate will change therefore alerting you of the seizure....

Thanks...I'm still

Thanks...I'm still researching but there are several smart watches/ apps that are able to alert by alarm and text when heart rate changes and convulsions...It seems to be a bit costly but worth it to me..He will be 12 next month and just wants some privacy, though I don't leave him home alone, I think this will be great while he is in his bedroom alone.will update  if I find anything.

There is a device (Emfit)

There is a device (Emfit) that is placed underneath the mattress that senses the distinctive motions of  a seizure, but it doesn't work that well with a box spring set-up because it's made in Europe (most countries use a platform under the mattress).  It's also kind of expensive (around $700).  Baby monitors are kind of useless unless somebody's watching it 24/7.  A Pulse/Ox monitor is the easiest device to use.  The sensor just clips over a finger or toe.  If the blood oxygen level drops below a certain percentage the alarm goes off.
