Hello Purity, At the age of thirty i discoverd i was pregnant, it was the best news i ever heard. My medication was 600mg Carbamazipine and 500mg Ethosuximide. At my twenty week scan i discovered my son had heart abnormalities due to my medication. I cannot say if this was directly from the carbamazipine or ethosuximide or interactions. After research i have found these medications are linked to Cleft pallet and heart abnormalities. My son has had four lots of open heart reconstruction and now aged 4 is in reception at school - he is the strongest in his class. His strengh shines bright. There is always a much higher risk with combined medication and at 400mg your dosage is quite low. If you are serious about a baby start taking folic acid to reduce risk factors and talk to your doctor. If i had known before my pregnancy risks involved i may never have had the pleasure i receive now. In a way i am glad i did not no, but if i can help in anyway let me know. I do not want to scare you in anyway, the medication does not affect all new borns. Its a slightly higher risk factor. I wouldn't change a thing. My son is amazing, he is no different to any other small child. My thoughts are with you. x
