Head Injury resulitng in Epilepsy

Fri, 06/09/2006 - 13:33
About 5 years ago I passed out from low blood pressure in a parking lot which resulted in a severe head injury and a grand mal seizure. Since then I have had complex partials... it took me a year before I would start dilantin. My neurologist at the time made it sound like the epilepsy would not be forever, that there should be a time where I could stop the dilantin. I have tried, unsuccessfully, for the last two years... my question is, is there anyone out there whose epilepsy went away after a head injury?

I have complex partials from a Car accident 8 1/2 years ago. My Story is that I had the Grand Mal at the time of the accident. I went on Dilantin right after that. I had no other symptoms for a year after. Then all the sudden these weird sensations started showing up. All my Doctors said I was having an Anxiety attack, and put me on no Medication. 5 years ago I went out for a night of Drinking... and baam I had another Grand Mal. Then I started to believe that was those weird sensations where, were seizures. I had complex partials after that Night of drinking and They sent me to a Neurologist who took 5 years until she sent me to a Epilepsy Center. The First doctor just told me I had a seizure disorder and said really nothing of it. She gave me some medication that she had to keep upping because they were getting worse..(Breakthru seizures). They sent me to a Neuropysiologist at an Epilepsy Center that deal with Epilepsy and knows about it. He sent me in for a VEEG this last May where they learned that because of Scar Tissue I have Right Temperal Lobe Epilepsy. So will it go away after a Head Injury I am not sure. Mine did not go away mine got worse. I think it all depends on what type of Head Injury you incurred. I wish you the best of luck in finding your answer. Leah
