HYSTERECTOMY/LUPRON SHOTS?

Tue, 05/30/2006 - 11:52
Hey. I'm not sure if I have already asked about this or not, (you all know how memory problems are). I have tonic clonic seizures normally at night, but I have had some awake. I have the aura's but usually not a seizure (then). I have been unable to drive since February (I'm 28). I have ,more so than not, my seizures under control EXCEPT during the days before my period. I have at least 2 or 3 each month at this time. At this rate I will never be able to drive again, and it is affecting me so much. I guess its having to depend on someone all the time. My gyno suggested 2 months of Lupron shots to see if my seizures would stop while my ovaries are shut down. If they improve a hysrerectomy ia an option. I'm just scared. Don't know what to do. My husband is scared for me to take these shots. Anybody have any suggestions?

Well the shots are nothing to be afraid of I have gotten then before you will start to go through menapause with that though. So you will have the hot/cold flashes and all that good stuff. But if the seizures are effecting your life that much then you should really talk it over with your husband. When I took the shot I did not get my period so it did dry up my overies so if that is why you are going on it then it should work for you. And that means you will have your life back. I think you should give it some deep consideration. I hope everything works out for you and you get well soon and I will pray that god will be with you.

Wendy- You should be aware that there is a class action lawsuit building against the makers of Lupron. In over 25% of women that have received the injections end up with long term side effects because of them - the main side effects are heart problems, stroke and seizures. I took the shots for nine months for endometriosis and my nuerologist thinks that the injections may have triggered my seizures since I had no history of seizures before the injections. I would think that if your having seizures before taking the injections, that the injections could make them worse. Please discuss this with your doctor. The benefits of the Lupron shots don't usually last more than a few months after the last injection, either. Also, the short term common side effects like hot flashes, night sweats and weight gain aren't much fun, either. Kelly
