Hi Carol,Hormones can trigger seizures. I've also read that when a woman is going through menopause, they can get worse. I might want to check with you doctor about hormone replacement therapy. I have catamenial epilepsy, which means that my seizures are hormone triggered. I usually have one the week before my cycle starts. There is a lot of information out there about women with epilepsy. Check it out.Ladybug

Hi Ladybug and anyone else that is reading this.

I am 47 and I started having seizures we think in 2003. I then had two grandmal's in 2006.

My question is ... what do you feel like when you have your seizure or do you blackout totally ( I too like you have them around my cycle) ?

I am on med's but I seem to be experincing some of the same feelings I did back in 2003. I am also

having hotflashes and no I was told by my obgyn that I have not started menopause.

Thanks for the help.

Menopause and Dilantin. Had a grand mal at work yesterday. Went to emerg. Found out that blood level for dilantin was toxic. Been taking 400 mg faithfully. Neurologist asked is I was going through menopause. Bingo!Comforting to know that I not the only one. It's real! Husband doesn't beleive in menopause! I guess then I don't believe in his gout, as I envision stomping on his big toe!
