Pregnancy and Zonegran

Mon, 11/06/2006 - 20:22
I have been on Zonegran for nearly 3 years. I had my first (and only) grand mal after the birth of my first child. My doctor advised me that if I want to become pregnant I should start taking folic acid. Unfortunately, I really haven't been taking it on a regular basis and have happily found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. I was taking 200mg daily. I cut my medication back to 2x a week about a month ago, which my doc. doesn't know.....yet. What I really want to know is if there are any women out there who have had children on Zonegran, and what the outcome was, ie healthy/unhealthy? I can't find much info. on it. Thx, Rachel

Hello Congratulations! :P I have had E since age 4 , so have tried a lot of meds in my life. I have been on Zonegran for a little more than a year now. Three months after I started taking them I got pregnant. My pregnancy went very good, no more sz than the usual complex partials tha I have every month. Now, I just had a healthy baby boy two months ago. All normal. The only thing that the doctors told me was thatI couldn't breastfeed him because of the Zonegran and the keppra. The folic acid is very important for the baby , specialy the first month of the pregnancy. Good luck and feel free to ask me anything. Ivis
