Reccomended medicine for cramps?

Thu, 02/01/2007 - 10:52
Im currently taking Dilantin and Lamictal, I was just wondering what pain medication I can take when I have cramps... the time is coming soon... and I dont think Im allowed to take Advil. They gave me pain killers, I forgot the name of it but its a low dose of morphine, would that aid me?

Hello, I am on Depakote, and the one problem with Advil is that it is an anti-inflamatory, which means it is a blood thinner. This is not a good mixture when it's "that time". I stick with Acetaminophen (generic for Tylenol) or the over the counter cramp meds such as Midol or Pamprin, which contain Acetaminophen as the main medicine. I am severely allergic to Dilantin and cannot take it, so I don't know if you can take Tylenol with it, but my mom is an R.N. with a Master's Degree, and this is the one drug she trusts 100% for pain or fever (unless swelling is involved). Hope this helps, Susan

HEY, I AM ON KEPPRA, TEGRETOL AND LAMICTAL. I HAVE HAD SEVERE MENSTRUAL CRAMPS SINCE MY CYCLE BEGAN WHEN I WAS 14. OVER THE YEARS THE SEVERITY HAS INCREASED. THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS I HAVE BEEN TAKING A PRESCRIBED DOSAGE OF MOTRIN, 600MG, PREFERABLY 800MG, BUT I TAKE WHAT I CAN GET. YOU HAVE TO TAKE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU, I GUESS IT ALL DEPENDS UPON WHAT INTERACTION IF ANY BETWEEN YOUR SEIZURE MEDS AND THE PAIN MEDICATION AS WELL AS HOW WELL THE PAIN MEDICATION WORKS TO RELIEVE YOUR PAIN. TYLENOL, MIDOL, PAMPRIN THOSE DO NOTHING FOR MY CRAMPS, BUT AS I SAID MINE ARE MAJOR. HAVE YOU CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAAT THERE AREN'T ANY UNDERLYING ISSUES THAT ARE CAUSING YOU MAJOR DISCOMFORT DURING YOUR CYCLE. GOOD LUCK :)
