Weight Gain

Hi I'm new to the site, and I didn't see any other discussion regarding weight gain. So I was wondering if any of you ladies out there experience significant weight gain after having seizure? I always seem to gain at least 20-30 lbs after a seizure (weight gain begins within a week or two of the seizure); and it is the devil getting it off. I am only 5' 3" and normally I weight 130-135; but since my last seizure 11/2003, I've gained 45lbs and can't get rid of it. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I actually gained 80 lbs from my first seizure, and only lost 20 lbs after 3 years of exercise and diet) Finally after some surgery (hysterectomy) and switching to topomax; I lost the weight. But had real problems with memory on topomax so I switched to keppra, had a seizure, and not I'm up to 175 lbs. Boy to I need help. I've been exercise and dieting since January and haven't lost an ounce! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Luna

I have found that it's more the medication or increases in medication that jumpstart my weight gain. Some meds aren't that bad for me, others like Depakote are like weight gain magnets! I'm still not quite sure how to battle the weight gain from the meds, some of them it's like no matter what you do the only way to get it to stop is to stop the med. Sorry, I know that can't be much help:(

Thanks Gina Perhaps I'll have to talk with my neuro. again to see what other drugs are out there, or if there is anything (special diet) I can do to take it off. I appreciate your comments.

[email protected] hi, my daughter is having weight issues and cannot seem to take off the 15 lbs she's gained on depakote. have you had any success with any diet? She takes 500 mg depakote, am and pm. Janet
