What are you doing for November?

Sun, 10/30/2011 - 10:10
As most of us know, November is Epilepsy Awareness Month! Whoot! I, for one, have several plans to advocate for awareness in my community. Do you? For starters, every day I'll post a new epilepsy statistic on Facebook. (and they can all be found grouped together in a note that directs them to epilepsy.com for more information). I did this last year and it was really helpful with my friends and family. I also change my profile picture to something epilepsy-related (like the epilepsy foundation's symbol, or a purple ribbon). This year, since I'm living in a new place with an entirely new community who doesn't know of my history or probably doesn't even know that I have epilepsy, I'm going to be making EPILEPSY COOKIES! and handing them out with an information sheet of common facts, questions, and seizure first aid- that will also direct them to epilepsy.com and the epilepsy foundation for further information. I'm making two kinds of cookies: sugar cookies cut out like ribbons and frosted purple, and oreos with a chocolate purple ribbon on top. And as usual, I'll be sporting something purple every day and keeping a ribbon on my purse or backpack. What will you do to celebrate Epilepsy Awareness Month and get the word out?
