Minnesota

Hello,

Upon independent research I have  only found two things.  One of them is through where your physician is from.  University of Minnesota has a great program.  So you are in the right place at the right time.  Epilepsy is crappy but you can adjust your life to it.

The other one is in St. Paul, here is the web address.

http://www.efmn.org/

I had a seizure in Center City, MN and he told me about this when I called from out there.  As you may know the brain fries for a little bit.  With my form of epilepsy it fries for approximately a month.  I'll call my Neurologist and ask him for his information...

thank you Josh..I didn't know that the U of M program was that good but thanks for the heads up. that makes me feel better. I looked through the provider book earlier for my insurance and found an epilepsy clinic in St. Paul. Can't remember the name of it but my guess is that's the one in St. Paul u are talking about. As long as it's a provider for my plan, I don't need a referral to see them. So if that's something I wanna check out sometime, I suppose I can do so easily. Like I said though, I am quite satisfied with my neuro. I've asked him a lot of what I thought was dumb questions but he doesn't think any of it is dumb. And for most of it I've got answers. thanks again! take care

Dear Avid,

Lee here.............There are 3 places in Minnesota for such specialized care.  The University offers one as does Mayo and a comprehensive center called MINCEP.  I suggest you go on the Epilepsy Foundation of MN website and check out all three facilities.  I believe that each has it's own website too so you can research their staff and qualifications.

Places that specialize in the treating of epilepsy tend to be on the cutting edge of things.  They aren't guessing as much as neuros or some others may be.  They also tend to focus on the quality of life with E and not just the control of it.  Diet, mental issues, other health issues that may contribute or cause problems, depression and many other factors are all addressed.

I wish you the best..........................Lee

fortunately I am already in the U of M system. I had no idea until I was posting on here that the U of M was so good to be with. I've never known anyone with epilepsy here in MN or when I lived in Indiana or Iowa. I don't even know anyone personally who has ever had a seizure. I'm glad there are places like this or I would be totally lost.
