anyone have similar myoclonic jerks?

Mon, 02/18/2019 - 14:41
Started having seizures at age 16- came out of nowhere. However, I did notice before the first seizure that my teeth were chattering- not intensely but noticeable. This made little sense to me at the time since I was living in hawaii then so I wasn't cold. Was diagnosed with epilepsy and then all these other jerks started showing up. Along with the teeth chattering, I found that when I was writing for a long time with my pen or pencil, the hand holding it would whip across the paper. Also, during an online test in the computer lab, I'd been typing a long time when suddenly both of my arms jerked up and slammed back down on the keyboard. With both the writing and typing, I would get this dizzy feeling where my vision would slightly blur and feel a jolt of electricity. After being on various meds, some of those symptoms left- for a bit. Then recently I went on lamictal (along with the keppra I'd been on for years) and some new things happened. Weirdly, I get these jerks in my pelvis/lower stomach area. Along with that, my hands, fingers, feet, and toes all twitch constantly, but I don't get that dizzy feeling like previously. Just random twitches. Like if something pops up in a movie, I don't get scared (big horror movie fan- kind of learned how to pick up on jumpscare cues) but my body twitches anyway. Finally I find at times my head just won't stay still- it's like it isn't stable and I manually have to keep it from moving around. Anyone with similar symptoms? I haven't really heard any similar stories. Thank you :)

Hey there, I'm definitely not

Hey there, I'm definitely not an expert, but if what you're experiencing isn't similar to others' descriptions of myo szs, they may be something else entirely. It can be something like a tremor, maybe a med side effect or something, or maybe a movement/muscle disorder, something more like dystonia. In any case, it's a good idea to talk about all this stuff with your neuro. The hand thing sounds familiar to me, and the chattering too, but I don't have myoclonic szs (got some other stuff lol) Don't worry about the symptoms, but talk to your Dr and hopefully you'll get some answers.Best of luckB
