Youth Seizure Concerns

Mon, 10/08/2018 - 00:15
So I'm seventeen, have been a diagnosed epileptic for about three years. Occasional grand-mal/tonic-clonic seizure (and by that I mean about once every couple of months). Recently, I've been looking a collages and living away from my parents. I wear a medical bracelet, and will have a roommate who knows about my epilepsy. Besides that, does anyone have any suggestions about what I should prepare, both medically and in day to day life to be ready to live without people who know my medical history as well as my parents?

Colleges have counselors that

Colleges have counselors that help people with things in college. As for your being away from home and people not knowing you have epilepsy - that can be a concern but it can be addressed by you and letting people you know or get acquainted with know what you have and how to help you if that see you in a seizure. Been there done that years ago. When I was a senior in HS I had my own apartment. I went to college but then things were a lot different back in 1969. Ask the person you will be rooming with what they think. Do work on keeping your meds working and taking them as directed and if you drink then limit your drinking to one drink every few hours. A beer every hour or 2 can be done but limit all alcoholic drinking if you do any at all.
