Lamictal side effects

Wed, 03/22/2006 - 23:00
I am 22 years old and, have been on Lamictal for about seven months. I just had my first grand mal seizure in July of 2005, and they started me on medicine in August. I was wondering if anybody has experienced moodiness on this medicine. I am not sure if it is the medicine or the fact that I am having a hard time accepting this. It does not seem fair that I should start having seizures at this age. Since October when the doctor upped my medicine, I have also started stuttering. I was just wondering if anybody else has had these problems with Lamictal. Susan

My daughter has been on Lamictal for 1 and 1/2 years she started with 100mg dosage and recently our Doctor increased her dosage to 150mg. 75mg in the morning and 75mg in the evening. She is 5years old will be 6 in May. We have noticed that she has problems controling herself. I wouldn't call them mood swings but she will not listen to directions and wants to put up a fight about everything. It is very frustrating. I was wondering if anyone thinks that 150mg is too much for a 5year old and if her behavior has anything to do with the medicine. She has not had a seizure since she started the medicine 1 and 1/2 years ago but I had noticed that she would have starring spells so when we went back to the Doctor he did an EEG and discovered that they were little seizures that she was having and decided to increase her dosage. Since then her behavior has gotten more difficult.

Quirky Hi I was on lamictal for a number of months and it didn't do me any good. I ended up with more seizures and lots of mood swings and even depression sometimes. I told my doctor and he took me off it once I told him. I had to gradually come off it but now that I'm off it, I no longer get depressed for no reason. This medication reacts differently with everyone but for me it was no good. It made things worse for me. If it is not wqorking out for you tell your doctor. Quirky
