Migraines & seizures

Fri, 02/03/2006 - 10:54
My 16-year-old daughter gets serious migraines following seizures of any type. So far the only way of stopping the migraines have been trips to the ER for Dilodid, although our neurologist now has a new non-morphine med on file at the ER for our next visit. We have tried five or six migriane meds, such as Imitrex and Toradol, to no avail. Any advice?

I was suffering with really bad migraines all my life and the only thing that has helped reduce them is the Topomax. Obviously there are alot of other side affects with it. Best wishes. Bex

I have a Sulfa allergy and so have used Zomig and Midrin (not together, but alternatively, depending on the situation.) The Zomig works OK, but I need to sleep when I take it and I awake with stiff joints. Midrin has been so helpful, but you have to be very careful with it - especially with a 16 yo. Midrin is isometheptene, dichloralphenazone, & acetaminophen. Apparently, it can be addictive. You will have to sign for it and they will likely only give you one dose at a time (it took me years before they would give me more than a few to take home).
