required bloodwork for children on tegretol / carbamazepine
Tue, 03/29/2005 - 07:38My son has just started this medication 100 mg in the am and pm the first day and then 200 mg in the am and pm The second day, and then he stays at the 200 twice a day. I was wondering what bloodwork should be done to monitor this drug on him.

Sharon,
I believe the bloodwork is just going to be routine labwork. Blood drawn from him [mine is taken/pulled from a vein in the bend in my right or left arm], prior to a follow-up visit with the doctor. Sometimes, also from a urine sample. This is usually done just before he takes his next pill[s].
