My son has just started this medication 100 mg in the am and pm the first day  and then 200 mg in the am and pm The second day,  and then he stays at the 200 twice a day.  I was wondering what bloodwork should be done to monitor this drug on him.

Sharon,

I believe the bloodwork is just going to be routine labwork. Blood drawn from him [mine is taken/pulled from a vein in the bend in my right or left arm], prior to a follow-up visit with the doctor. Sometimes, also from a urine sample. This is usually done just before he takes his next pill[s].

Hope this helps. Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Well looky there, while looking up some info to help answer someone else's questions, I ran across a website that might help you.

I have taken tegratol for 14 years and I am now 16. When I was little I got my blood work done every 6 months. only was it on my last blood work appt. that my doc said once a year. It varys from person to person, if the child is young get an oppinion from the doc firts of all and second don;t get blood work done any more then you have to. Needles are not fun. I was 5 when I finily had to fess up and take it with out crying and having to be held. don;t do that to your baby if you don;t have to. Havign to adjust to needles is not fun at all.
