Glycoprotein in wine and beet and Epilepsy

hello,


I am 43, I first had epilepsy 6 years ago, Since the age of 17 I have always had a few pints (2-4) of larger most days or perhaps a glass or 2 of wine (I am not drunk, I can drink a lot if I want without issue).

 When my epilepsy first started and even today, before every seizure I have a lot of saliva build up in my digestive tract (before that I get butterfly in my stomach), I begin to swallow the saliva a lot and that helps me stop or not having the seizure. Since day 1 I never new I was actually blacking out really, only finding myself on the floor and remembering that I had felt I was about to vomit then black out.



I was wondering could it be Glycoprotein in the wine or beer that is the cause of my epilepsy. 

 

just wondering had anyone else wondered could it be  the Glycoprotein as i always have sickish stomach just before fit. usually I have sezures between 6am and 3pm.

According to the NIH, glycoprotein can prevent (AEDs) from reaching their targets in the brain.  And sleep deprivation certainly doesn't help.  That's one of the major eizure triggers!

That being said, I was first diagnosed with epilepsy at 14 and certainly wasn't drinking beer.  Yet I had the exact same "aura."  My mouth would fill up with saliva and then I'd get a disgusting metalic taste in my mouth.  Next thing I knew, I was on the floor.

So with you, I think it's a matter of tolerance.  But please, at least get a good night's sleep and eat properly!    Phylis Feiner Johnson    www.epilepsytalk.com
