Help.

Tue, 02/05/2008 - 12:04

Hello world,

Please forgive me if I seem mis-informed.  I probably am.  I'm not sure if this is even the proper forum, but I need help.  Anyone who can re-direct me to the right path then I will surely go.

My nick is onSTAR, I'm a man of 35 years and have been dealing with a Grand-Mal disorder since I was first diagnosed at 15.  My seizures are controlled if I take Depakote (Divalproex-sodium) 250mg 3x a day.  Now, if I am off of my medication for more than a week, I will begin to experience and half a full blow grand-mal disorder.  Usually I go to the E.R. and get billed, prescribed a script I cannot afford.  I make under $10,000 a year in the United States, where I live, I usually go the the local "donation" based organizations and they have assisted me because I do not have a regular doctor.  Today I have found that I was denied any assistance.  I have one pill left, and have my calendar marked in the future anticipation of upcoming seizures.

Does anyone out there have any kind of resources, links, anything that would help narrow my search down for assistance.  I have heard of an SP-Cares program, etc.  This is not a joke, so if anyone IS reading this and DOES have any helpful leads, please respond.

Sincerely,

onSTAR

Hello Onstar and welcome!

Here is the link to SSI, which if you are approved could help monetarily with your Rx's.

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ssi/

This is a link to SSD, which if approved helps you monetarily and also approves you for Medicare to pay for your RX's.

http://www.ssa.gov/disability/

Both of these take a while to be approved but you could apply now and try other avenues while waiting to be approved.

Other links to try -

http://www.togetherrxaccess.com/Tx/jsp/home.jsp

https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php

http://www.needymeds.com/

http://www.freemedicinefoundation.com/application_form.html

http://www.drx.com/

Perhaps one of these could be of help in the meantime.

I have not tried any of these so cannot attest to any of their abilities. If you should try one and it be helpful, perhaps you could post it here. It could be of help to someone else. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi onSTAR!

Great post by Spiz, some great links there! My Neuro just put me on Disability, and if I'm denied, he told me to get a lawyer to settle my case for me and would back me up with whatever documentation if I need it. My advice to you is look over the above links that Spiz posted to find out where to get help. There are sources to get meds for people that don't have insurance.

There's nothing I can do about your meds I live in a different country.  But your heading towards a Grand mal not because your out of meds but your getting stressed out about it.  Stop calm down don't anticipate what might not happen, epilepsy can stop just as easy as it started.  If theres someone in the U.K that's coming of Depakote I'm sure they'll donate what's left of theres instead of throwing them in the bin. I actually threw nearly a months supply of Keppra in the bin because I did'nt know better, thats why I started my discussion on different countrys and experiences so we could better understand what other people across the world are going through and not just mine

I hope you have good luck in your search and get better and don't get stressed out please.
