SEIZURE, AND WAKING UP TO DISCOVER I HAVE VOMITED - EDITED SEPTEMBER 25, 2011

Sun, 09/18/2011 - 21:50

In addition to below:  My other seizures last only a few minutes from beginning to being concious again.  I wonder why I did not wake up for about one hour?  Any suggestions?

Also, once a had two seizures in a row but I was not drinking acohol.  Is this considered a medical emergency?

I have learned that I should not drink alcohol.

I drank too much for three consecutive nights, and then stopped.  Two evenings after I stopped drinking I believe that I had a seizure because I woke up about one hour later, and had vomited but do not know if I did so during or after the seizure.  However, I did not feel nauseous so I cannot contribute this to drinking too much.  Also, I did not get so drunk to make me pass out, I was only a little "tipsy."

In the little over a year that I have been taking valproic acid, my seizures have been fully controlled so I assume it is the alchohol withdrawal that caused my seizure? Also, I did not know that one could vomit during or after a seizure.

Does anyone know about vomiting during a seizure?   What kind of seizure could cause this?  Before I began on medication I had grand mals.

When I woke up I had vomit ONLY on my left shoulder blade, and no where else including my chest, the couch etc.

Unlike other seizures I did not have sore muscles the next day but had a sore neck.  When I am awake, I cannot turn my head enough so that my points only to my shoulder blade.  Perhaps this was "projectile" vomting?

Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Nocturnal seizures occur when you are sleeping, it sounds more to me like you had a Gran Mal seizure whether you were sleeping or not. A Gran Mal seizure can easily cause vomiting, especially if you've been drinking. When I started having seizures and was put on medication, I just quit drinking so if I had a seizure, I didn't have to question whether or not it was alcohol. In my opinion, if you have Epilepsy and are taking AED's, you shouldn't be drinking anything. (Note: This is my opinion) Consider the possibility of asphyxiation by vomiting while having a seizure, it happens easier & faster than you think. I had RTL surgery on May 5, 2011 and have been seizure free since, I have no intention of drinking.
