Has Sodium Amytal been recalled?
Mon, 05/05/2008 - 21:22Topic: Surgery and Devices
Hey everyone! I have been on the waiting list to surgery at my local hospital since November 2007. I had my first WADA Test scheduled in November of 2007 when the nurses were told by the pharmacy ON THE VERY DAY that I was sceduled to tell them that there had been a national recall on Sodium Amytal and that it would not be available until further notice. My doctors were then told that they might be able to get it this past march and then told me last week that they were going to have to cancel my WADA Test on may 19 again because they were not able to get it. I want to know if anybody has heard anthing about it or where I would go to find more information about it. Thank you!

Hi,
I live in Norway and experiencing the same problem as you are. I've done some searching on the net and from what I understand there's a problem with Ranbaxy's production of Amytal. On FDA homepage it says that the problem has been resolved since january, but the drug is still not available here in Europe. Guess I'll just have to be patient, but it sucks not knowing when the wada-test can be done.
Take care.
Edit: Found out that the shortage is still a problem. Here's a link to ASHP, who keeps track of drugs unavailable or for other reasons discontinued.
