Left Temporal Lobectomy Surgery

Tue, 03/28/2006 - 15:05
Hello As some of you already know I had my Wada Test done last week and I have been told now that I am a candidate for surgery. I just seem to have so many thoughts whizzing through my head at the moment of whether to take this opportunity and go ahead with the surgery. I try to weigh the pros and cons and everything seems to lead me to yes as I have nothing to lose, except a bit more of my memory!!! LOL Did any of you who have already had the surgery or are in the same position as me right now have some stress once told that you are a candidate for the surgery? Did they shave all your hair off your head? Did you regret having the surgery done and were you able to manage on your own during the recovery period? Was the surgery successful/unsuccessful? All replies welcomed and thanks. Teri

I had a left temporal l

I had a left temporal l obectomy in May 2008. I've been seizure free ever since. My concern is that I get a lot of migraines. I've had three episodes in the past year that were very scary. I start getting throbbing in my left ear followed by confusion and trouble speaking. I get a terrible headache after that. In January this happened and the left side of my face drooped like I was having a stroke. My tests ask came back negative and I was told this was a type of migraine that has similarities to strokes. Has any one else ever episodes like this and if so is there anything you can tell me? I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi, Congrats! And of course I was nervous. But, after all my years on meds, I didn't want to turn down an oppourtunity, as I knew that later in life I'd wonder 'what if I hadn't'. Good thing I didn't turn it down. For as you know, via the surgery I discovered that ,all my life, I'd had gangliogloma .. a rare, benign, slow-growing tumor that had caused my epilepsy all my life. Hair? You can't even tell I had any surgery by looking at me. From above my left ear (up to my eyebrow heught amd back a couple of inches) a narrow 3 sides were shaved for cutting and a piece was left growing in the middle of the shaved area. Hair from the top of my head was long enough to cover the area shaved, so it was impossible to look at me and realize I'd had surgery. Best of luck, Teri Pamela

Hi Pamela Thanks for you reply to this post and all your messages when I am online. I am so glad that everything is still working out for you after your surgery. You were an inspiration for me to go through with just the Wada test. My Neurosurgeon told me a while back that I would only have a bit of my hair shaved off above my ear too. While there are others who I have spoken to online have said when they came round after their surgery they found all their hair was shaved off. So that concerned me!! LOL My hair has also grown alot longer since back then. I know it depends where a person is having the surgery, but these people only had the temporal lobe removed. Keep in touch and Take care Teri
