Epilepsy & Pregnancy

Mon, 04/13/2020 - 00:15
Hi everyone, I just want to share a positive story, having epilepsy I have stressed out about many things including having a baby. For the longest time my husband and I considered adopting due to the complications that could happen. But we decided to have a biological child last year. Everything could have not turned out better! I stayed on my medication and at the end of my pregnancy I was taking 600mg of lamictal a day. I understood the side effects but just kept positive. I had two seizures during my pregnancy, but other then that the pregnancy went great! My son came out perfect! He was two weeks late but so much more developed, when the pediatrician came in to look at him and said he was perfect I almost cried with joy! He is now 7 months old and developing perfectly and is such a happy baby! I am sharing my story because I know how scared I was and reading positive posts from other moms really helped me stay positive.

Hi!  Congratulations on your healthy baby boy!  It made me so happy to ready this as I have been having anxiety about wanting to have a baby while worrying about the side effects of my medicine.  I take Depakote now and my Neurologist wants me to make the switch to Lamictal.  Do you like Lamictal?  Have you always taken that medication or did you make the switch before pregnancy? Thanks again for sharing your story and for providing hope to others!
