VNS surgery

Mon, 09/29/2008 - 23:47

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 13. I lost my teenage years to trips to the ER, medication, tests, and medication side effects. After 6 years of trying to find a medication that would control all of my seizures I am running short on patience. I am so tired of the way all of these medications make me feel. Anyway.... Has anyone gotten the VNS surgery? I am thinking about getting it and am going to talk to my doctor about it. If any of you have any input about the surgery please let me know.

Thank you so much!!

my mom was just telling me about this tonight. i was diagonosed with epilepsy at 6. Not to mention, my mom works with the menally challenged, who some have problems with sezuires. Some of her clients have had this surgery. She said it has worked for all of them and its a wonderful surgery. she suggested i have it done. I started researching it tonight. I heard its pretty good.....guess its better than waiting for a medicine to kick in.

It works for some and others not so well.......I guess depends on what types of SZ you have  & the meds you are on...I've had one for years and still waiting for my 3 meds to decrease but every time they try my sz's get worse........ I just had a new model installed this july due to a accident and it seems to be working better then the one I had installed five years ago....Doc said don't count on a decrease of meds though but with the magnet at least I can control the sz's better!.....I call it my zapper....With my old one I didn't like to use the magnet that much cause it hurt when I used it but this one doesnt so I use it more ....It so bring me out of the sz.....Just remeber that with everything you only get out of it what you put into it .....So good luck and I' hoping the best for you

Sincerely

Anne
