Thanks Penny,

It certainly sounds like we are in similar situations. How old is Shawn?

Nick hasn't got his licence because of the seizures and relies on lifts, public transport or a bike. (I hate him on the bike but I don't say much these days- at 21yo it's a bit hard to tell him what to do).

I also drive him to work and pick him up after I finish work. It's great for both of us when he can organise a lift with a workmate. I want him to be independant, but need to wean my brain off worrying.

He is off to the cardiologist tomorrow to have an ambulatory heart monitor attached which he will wear for a week to see if a heart arrythmia (?) is contributing to him collapsing/seizing and also to monitor his heart when he has a seizure.

When they remove it next Friday they will also do an echocardiogram. I let the Cardio and the neuro know, by phone, of these last few morning seizures but have not had a reply, sooooo will have to waaaaaait until tests results are back and he sees both of specialists. Aaarrrgghhh! it's all so long and frustrating and I know I can't change that but #@%$#@!!!            I know how you feel!

I know Nick is more likely to seize if he is tired or emotional but he can also be like that often and not seize, so who knows. What does seem pretty consistent is that he is either 'hyperhappy' or 'darkandbrooding' the night of, or day before an episode,

Hope things improve at your end,

Take care,

Maryanne :)

Hi Maryanne,

I tried to reply to you through your email address but it bounced back to me with this message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.

Isn't that strange?  Is that your email address at home?  Anyway, this is the second time that happened.  Thought you should know.

Anyway, it is so nice to talk to someone who understands what
you are going through!  I think our situations are very similar too. Shawn is 27yo, not a kid by any means.  He finished college 2 years ago with a degree in accounting (I still don't know how he did it with the seizures!) but decided he doesn't wamt to do accounting for the rest of his life.  He was a straight A student until he started having the seizures.  Blanking out didn't help at all.   He finally got a temp job doing accounting at the UCONN Health Center.  If the job turns permanent it will be a good job with good benifits.  He will know if it will be permanent October 1.  He still lives at home and I pay for his cobra insurance, car insurance and meds.  He has his drivers licence but right now he can't drive.  Connecticut says 3 months after a seizure before you can drive.  I would just as well he wait.  It must be very discouraging for these your men to have to go through this.  When did your son start having seizures?  Shawn has had them about 9 or 10 years. I feel helpless too.  I wish I could take it from him, and it breaks my heart to see him like that. And I hape all those meds.  They are so strong.   What state do you live in?  Too bad we don't live closer we could get together.  Talk to you soon.
