Lamictal - Has it made seizure activity worse for anyone?

Sun, 05/15/2005 - 05:48
Hi everyone...I was wondering if anyone has had increased seizure activity from being on Lamictal (and/or trouble sleeping).  My 6-year old daughter is on 3 meds (phenobarb, trileptal, and lamictal) and it seems to me that when we try to increase her lamictal levels (we have done so in the past) she sleeps less and seizure activity increases.  Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing...

I had a VERY bad reaction to Lamictal.  I felt like I was having a heart attack.  I actually wound up in the ER and had to undergo many test before they coined it as an allergic reation.

I was on Lamactil for 5 weeks -- every time the dose stepped up to a higher level, I would experience at least 2 - 3 days of bad side affects.  More seizures...lots of twitches and trembling.  I would forget how to do really simple tasks.  Then, after the 3 days, I'd be fine.  My doctor ended up taking me off the medication because he had "never heard of such side affects."

Hi ... To me it did. I have juvilile myoclone epilepsy, and had a full seizure when I was 15 and then nothing - without medication for many years. Then I started Lamictal almost 3 years ago, but for treatment of bipolar mood disorder, and 1½ year later I had a full seizure again. Both seizures were in connection with alcohol intake - but I have been drinking a lot over the years, and I am pretty sure that the Lamictal is one of the reasons why I got a new seizure - simply because you get more vulnerable to seizures, if you are not careful with taking the drug and drinking.
