"Brain Surgery Gone Bad"

I was scheduled for a bain surgery in decemeber of 2001 well for some odd reason i was somewhat excited because i thought i was finally going to be siezure free. Well lucky me my doctors decided to change the date to March of 2002! I was so disappointed. Well a week before my surgery I was a nervous wreck I did nothing but go to church and pray, well the day came and I went to the hospital well I went to prep and I had the surgery 2 of them at that. The first surgery they put grids on my brain and monitord my siezures for about a week then the second one was the actual surgery. Well when I finally went home I was siezure free for 3 months the longest I had ever been in my life. But one day I came home from my friends house and my dad sat me down on the couch and said I have something to tell you " Miranda you had a siezure this morning" I didn't know what to think, I started to cry, but my dad held me in reassurance, and told me everything was going to be ok. So If you are goin to have a brain surgery I hope yours goes well. Because I'm fixing to have another one soon. If you have any advice for me plz let me know.

nana, I had surgery on my left temporal lobe and the surgeon told my parents if it did not help he would perform a second surgery with me awake. I went exactly 6 months seizure free. The bad news was, by this time the neurosurgeon that spoke of performing the second surgery with me awake had moved to a different hospital so the doctor who performed the second surgery did not do it with me awake. 2 weeks later I had a seizure. I advise you to ask your neurosurgeon if he could perform the second surgery with you awake. Good Luck, E_Loner

good morning my daughter has surgery last year May 2005 ( both resection and mst) one foci was in her secondary language center. She too was seizure free for 6 motnhs and then they returned. The seizures are for now shorter and less aggresive , she now seems to have auras before each one. She is scheduled for re-evaluation in June , maybe VNS or additional sugery. They also seem to think the scar tissue is to blame. She had no nurological damage the first time and I would still reccomend having surgery for if there were goods chances of becomming seizure free. She has been taking three meds for 2 years now. I think that you always have to strive to become siezure free if there are not great risks envolved. whatever you decide I hope all goes well.
