Hi, my name is Kathy and my twin sister has had epilepsy for 30 + yrs.  She has been ok'd for left temporal lobe brain surgery in the near future. Is there anyone out there who has had the surgery or is anticipating having the surgery? I would really like to talk about it. Thanks.

Camilla,  thanks for shring your story of Ryan.  What a wonderful blessing it is for him to be seizure free.  May he continue a strong and healthy life with his twin brother.  I hope the outcome will be the same for my sister when she has the surgery. It's heartbreaking seeing someone you love suffer from this condition all their life.  If surgery is the last hope, then the chance must be taken  with the odds of success or not.  Hopefully, her life maybe normal once and for all.  Kathy

hey my name is jen i'm 15 years old and my b/f steve is having brain surgery on july 9th or 10th. he's only 14 15 when he has the surgery and he's been having seizures since he was 10.  he has his on his left temporal lobe/front temporal lobe also. this is what he told me about what is going to happen.

first he's going to have a surgery and they are going to drill in his head some electrons and put them on his brain and then wait till he has 2 or 3 seizures (which will take about a week) then they'll open up his brain and take the electrons out and then take out the thing that is causing his seizures. i'm very scared about it but his doctors say that there is less than 1% of him dieing. but if they take anything out of the front temporal lobe he said that it would mess up his motor skills, like touch and taste and stuff like that and that's all i really know about it. i hope i helped.

Hi Jen,

I hope your boyfriend will do well after surgery. I can tell by your letter that your understanding  of the surgery is how a 15 year old would describe it. Be assured that the procedure will be alittle more intense and they won't open up the brain, the doctor will be removing the damaged part of the brain along with  the damaged area causing his seizures. While in surgery, he will be awake at certain times so the doctor can talk to him  to see if the part of the brain to be removed can be done so it wont affect the skills he needs.  I wish your boyfriend a successful outcome and hope you will stand by him as he recovers. Kathy
