Is it even worth going through another surgery?

Tue, 07/30/2013 - 12:27

Hi everyone... I had a brain tumor removed back when I was 16. It never stopped my seizures. i'm 41 now. My Dr. tells me they've come a long way now and can pin point more where the seizures are coming from to try to stop them. I'm om Lamictal, topamax, and onfi and have less seizures now then I ever have. I finally gave up driving 8 years ago after I had my son because of numerous fender benders and knew I shouldn't have been on the road. Thats my main goal to want to drive again.. I can't stand this!!!!!  But if I do go through a second brain surgery and its not successful, ill be devastated.. I'm already missing a big chunk of my brain due to the tumor removal, do I really want any more removed??????  Any advice from anyone else that has gone through any kind of surgery???

Thanks

I began having Absence

Submitted by winifredbeware@gmail.com on Mon, 2014-03-31 - 13:41
I began having Absence seizures at age 40 and a grand Mal two years later. At first they did't even think they were seizures. All EEG's were normal. My neurologist sent me to see a psychologist who diagnosed me with disassociate disorder. A year later after I had a grand mal they knew it was seizures after all and placed me on Dilantin, which was horrible. I then when to NYU hospital and opted for surgery right temporal Lobe. I was seizure free for 5 years and they started again wo years ago and all meds don't work. I was asked to consider a second surgery, and I'm going to go for it if all the tests turn out good. I can't life with this. Last year I fell and when they found me I went into kindey failure and was on dialysis for 10 weeks. Now all meds do not work, They mentioned VNS but I'e read that it does not stop sizures, only makes them less serever and it does not work for 35%. Also you need to stay of meds. I'd rather continue to try meds. I am hoping this second surgery will stop the seizures. I can't continure to live like this. The five years that I was seizure free were wonderful.
