Left Parietal Lobe - surgery

Sat, 04/12/2008 - 12:22

Hi,

I have parietal lobe epilepsy and have just found out yesterday that I got the green light for surgery.

I hav yet to meet the neurosurgon and discuss how successful it could be and the risks involvoed if I still want to go through with it.

The doctors were worried that it might affect my speech but turns out i am using my speech in another area of the brain, not near my scar which is all good news.

I was just wondering if anyone who has had parietal lobe surgery could let me know the outcome of going through with it, if it was worth it, any body parts affected after etc

I would appreciate this very much.

Thanks in advance,

the first thin i would look at is the record of success that your doctor and hospital have.  most are amitures and success rate is along with mayo brothers.  they tend to have more failures than anything else.  check out Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes In chicago.  They have never had a failure, have never leftt patients with a loss of a function and best of all , they will not leave you a bill that after insurance will bankrupt you.  good luck.

How do you find the success rate of the doctor's or hospital's brain surgeries...is it listed somewhere?

hi greeng I could not find a list as such on success rates before I had my surgery. There is only one doctor in the country where i live that can perform brain surgery for those with epilepsy so I did not have a second opinion. I was informed by my own neurologist that my surgeon is very good and success does not happen with every case as everyone's case is different.
