VNS therapy

I am having VNS therapy done March 27th. Ive done my research and have watched the video they gave me about it. The only thing im nervous about anesthesia.
I know what side effects that may happen when i get the VNS so thats not a problem. What im wondering is something more simple, I have a bluetooth and someone told me i may not be able to use it anymore after the VNS is implanted. If anyone knows for sure i would really appreciate it along with any other info about what to expect from the surgery.

Its one that hangs around

I have not had a bluetooth

I have not had a bluetooth that hangs around my neck.  When I got my new model VNS in 2011 here in Fort Worth (my original was installed in 2001 in San Antonio) and changed the settings, I DID get my high vocal range back!!!!!! Yeah!!!!  Do to whomever asked that question, the new units are better.  The main problem I've faced is the inability to get MRIs.  I have a few soft tissue orthopedic issues that need picture taken.  Just taking a stab at the bluetooth question, if there is no magnet in the bluetooth, you shouldn't have a problem.  If it's wireless equipment/electronics only, it should be ok.  I know with my VNS, I have to keep it away from the magnet at my belt, but that's obvious.  You don't want the magnet wiping the hard drive and the battery, just like any computer.  I know my cell phone has started acting a little weird, so the magnet may have a greater range than I anticipated.  I'm going to call my computer tech and ask them about the bluetooth question.  I absolutely LOVE my VNS.  Can't live without it right now.

If you have Acid Refux I

If you have Acid Refux I would advise you very strongly from my own experience NOT TO GET IT,it caused me to have constant pain when I'd get refux, hours on end, that damn thing stimulates the nerve in your Esophagus and believe me it gets really pissed off.Another thing these things will do to you is raise your heart rate and blood pressure,it raised mine,it used to be 147 over 85,and that was with my blood pressure med, after I turned it off it has been 124 over 70  consistantly.  Another thing about the VNS is that it will only work for 47 percent of people who have it.Mine only reduced the severity of my seizures,it didn't reduce the number or frequency of them and the magnet never worked to halt a seizure when I had one.  You'll have a lot of pain where they place this device in your chest for 3 weeks, pain meds didn't really help that, oxycodone didn't help.Right after the surgery you'll feel like your chin has been tied down to your neck, but that'll go away in about a week.  Hope this helps you out a little, persobally surgery is a better way to go if you want a cure.I just had laser Ablation done to burn away my right Amygdala and right Hippocampus and it was almost painless, out in a day too.My life has never been better

I do wish I would have not

I do wish I would have not got mine also and feel that there is much more to look at 1st. I got the brain surgery done the same day and didn't need the VNS after all. When it was put in it had malfunctions and now I'm to scared to take it out.

I Have one and wish I would

I Have one and wish I would not have got it and YES stay the heck away from cell phones close to it and any magnets (that you do NOT need to place on) & any battery.
