Myoclonic Jerks

Wed, 11/23/2005 - 04:28
I have Myoclonic Jerks. I developed them at the age of 43. I"ve been started, very slowly, on 3 different kinds of medications: Trileptal, Klonopin, and Neurontin and the Myoclonic Jerks still are not completely under control. I have times when I experience confusion. I don't know who I am or where I am or what I am doing. It lasts only about 50 seconds and then I'm really spaced out for the rest of the day. These come in clusters. I've not had these since I got settled on the most recent medication: Neurontin. Does anyone else have experience with any of this or the Myoclonic Jerks in particular?

Caboose, Did your sz's start w/jerks first and then gradually develop to the "big guys"? Or did your "jerks" and the "big guys" begin all at once? Please, if you wouldn't mind, tell me about how your sz's came about, what age you were when they began, etc. I have been diagnosed in this last year (age 43) after suffering for 2 years (my neurologist thinks I've been having mild sz's a whole lot longer). How old are you now (if you don't mind my asking?). skyblue

Hi Caboose, I've been taking Lamictal for nearly 18 mos. now, with good results...except. Usually toward the end of the day, often when watching TV, when somebody makes a quick movement with their arm or leg, I jerk with that same limb. Watching football or basketball is a real participant sport for me. My neuro isn't worried- I don't have the spaced out weirdness some of us have. Rootbeer??? Just don't make me give up ginger ale. It's my alcohol substitute. Peace to you all-cc
