Left Temporal Lobe Surgery next week

Mon, 04/29/2013 - 17:23
Hello. I cant find any recent ongoing discussions of Left Temporal lobe surgery. My husband will be having his surgery next week, after 17 years of seizures and 8 years of trying to make a decision on surgery. My anxiety is beyond belief. I am trying to hold it together for him and our 4 children. I find most success stories are of RIGHT temporal lobectomies. Has anyone recently recovered from Left TL surgery that might have some words of wisdom or advice on getting through this procedure? Thank you ajard

It's tough to give you a definite timeline since we're all different.  It would probably be fair to say it lasted a couple of months for me, although it was most pronounced in the first couple of weeks of being home.

Something else to consider.  Your husband's jaw will probably bother him after surgery.  Chewing gum and yawning on purpose helped with this once the pain lessened.

pick61.. interesting... no one discussed the jaw pain with us and nor have I read much about this. How much time did you take from work? That is one of my husbands favorite questions.

Thank you everyone for your input. We have connected with two people that have gone through it and were lucky enough to live close enough to have dinner with them and meet up in person. I just found the web very frustrating to gather more experiences. I found many forums to be from 2007 so I could not converse with people about it and / or as I read more forums most seemed to be Right sided surgery. I guess we so nervous that at this point hearing success stories is the only thing that helps.
