no periods with Trileptal?

Sat, 09/02/2006 - 20:08
Hi - For about the past five months or so, I have basically had no period when it was time. I've taken a pregnancy test and that is not the reason. My meds have changed around some but I have consistently been on 900-1200mg of Trileptal a day. Has this affected anyone else? I have had a particularly stressful spring and summer so I know that this could be a cause also. Thanks for any input.

Hi there! Just wanted to tell you to be careful about the birth control method you use with Trileptal. I have been on Trileptal for about two years. It does mess with your hormones. I got regular periods 90% of the time, but the last time I missed it I found out I was pregnant. I was very surprised because I was on birth control pills and took them every day. I'm now five months pregnant, which I am happy but nervous about. I'm still taking Trileptal but at a higher dose because my seizures got worse with pregnancy. Everything is going fine so far though.

Well, good news. The flood gates have opened!!! :-) I have heard that Trileptal can decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. Right now I'm on Estrostep and my husband and I are also using other methods on top of it. Still, a bit concerning that it took five months......does anyone have any advice for when we do decide to get pregnant? How will my "messed up hormones" play into this??? thanks

My "friend" is very late. I'm 32 years old and am positive I'm not preggers. My anti-depressant, Lexapro, was upped a little over a month ago. I'm on Neurontin (900 mg a day) for my sz. I feel like I'm stuck in perpetual PMS untill I get it. Not fun for me or those around me. I also have an increased risk of having sz. I get simple partial seizures. I had several last week. I hope everything checks out ok. "Looking like a true survivor..." --- Sir Elton/Taupin '83
