Topamax

Topic: Women With Epilepsy

I've been taking different meds for seizures since I had E, but someone has put to my attention Topamax. Says that it's better and it helps you to lose weight. Is that true? How good is this drug? What are the side effects? If anyone here has taken Topamax please let me know what you think of the drug. Thanks :-)

I've been on Topamax since July and struggled through the side effects. Yes, I did lose weight, an added bonus. No problem with kidney stones. I did have the side of effect of word loss, metal taste, focus etc...but it does pass, you just have to hang in there. If it works for you, it's worth it. I don't have 100% sz control on Topamax, but am happy at this point with the results. We are still tweaking the dosage. I'm able go to work everyday on this drug. For me Keppra had a severe negative effect on my mood. I read somewhere that this is most common in children, but I have to say that I was pure evil. I had absolutely no control over it. Severe angry outburts. As soon as I was taken off of the Keppra the behavior thankfully stopped. Some scary stuff! Can't go near that again. It wasn't working on my sz's anyway. Hi Seizuregirl, I hope all is well with you today. Wow that is expensive for the meds for you, I agree. I wouldn't worry too much about the kidney stones if I were you. It usually doesn't happen, I understand, unless there is a history of kidney trouble. That is what they told me about the Zonegran. So I just make sure I drink LOTS of water.
