post op surgery site question
Mon, 04/14/2008 - 11:13I had right temporal lobe surgery done in '07, and I'm curious to know if anyone who has had this surgery still have, as I call them, little bumps around the surgery site? Although i feel great and have had no seizures thus far, i wonder if anyone else has these. I know it is because of the screws in the skull. They dont hurt, nor are they bothersome. Its kinda "funky" though running my hand across my temple and feeling it. LOL . Anyone? Becky

Oh, okay. Thanks for clarifying:) Do you or your doctor know why that happens? My head only gets sore on that side when i wear my hair up for a period of time. Which is often since my hair is long, and its hot here.
Take care, Becky

I had a mid-temporal lobectomy in March 07'. I too started to notice the little bumps. I asked my neurosurgeon what they were. He said that these are disolvable screws. Over time as the skull heals these will be gone. How have you been since your surgery? I have been doing great. 16 months siezure free. I'm also almost off my medication(Dilantin). It's a wonderfull feeling to know you will be able to live without the fear of siezures. Finally able to begin my life after 20 years of siezures. Hope you are doing well!! Take care.

Hi Becky. What I mean by it flares up: If I feel my skull where the surgery was done, I can feel the line made by teh incision. When I get tired and other stuff like I said, that line, the scar, bumps up and it becomes more profound - more bumpy. It hurts to touch it and if I have to scratch my head, to scratch it really stings. On a normal day, I don't normally notice the scar/bumpline BUT I can still feel it. I feel it MORE when I am stressed or overtired - it is raised up more, it hurts more. I hope that helps clear things up. Let me know if you have questions.
