right frontal lobe surgery-may have it very soon!

This ? has been asked before, but I'll try again. not much response to the last person who asked. i guess not many people have frontal lobe surgery. my 25yo daughter may be a good candidate for it. i want to know more about the effects of this surgery on others. she had a brain tumor as a baby and had radiation treatment and surgery at that time. she is cognitively impaired due to above, as well as the epilepsy and high dose meds. we're so worried. it's such a gamble-will her functioning improve or get worse? there will not be a definitive answer to this dilemma, i know. other people's experiences would be helpful. thanks

My son is 24 and is expecting to get a right frontal lobectomy in February of 2010.  I was wondering how you are doing.  He started having seizures about 3 years ago and med's haven't been totally reliable.  He has had the tests and the Doctor feel it should be successful.  How have you been, as guy in your 20's do have the results been okay. Thanks for your time.

I am considering surg. for right frontal. The MRI showed a field of possible focus. Area to be resected is about 2 cm. I worry it is near a motor control area. They are skipping WADA since it's right side and are going to Strips and Grids, where they will then map the area and possibly record a seiaure off-meds. My siezure focus is my left upper pectoral muscle ictal-onset and post-ictally my neck left back-oblique. Between seizures I get an occasional twith in my left pectoral and have about 1 sezure a week. I have a VNS which made the onset of my sezure even more violent. I suffer an aura for about 30 seconds before the seizure.

Since your seizure was pre-frontal can you elaborate on your operation? Since you don't have my email just ask for it in a post and I will make it visible for awhile.

I have a 6.9mm lesion on the right frontal lobe and I am taking 3000mg keppra, 600mg Topamax, and a variety of other medications a day. This does not always keep things under control, I have developed some coping mechanisms until I can get myself to a safe place to sleep it off.  THat means lossing several hours of time and waking with a terrible headache and disoriented.  I know in advance, because I smell like a blood hound.  Out of no where, I will smell something that consumes me and I know that I must find a safe place off the freeway, away from people, sharp objects; I lay down and go to sleep.  I have a very short period of time to get myself to a safety zone.  Sometimes it is a fast food parking lot.  I never know where I might end up, I know that I must not put others in danger.  I asked my neurologist at Kaiser about the Cyberknife at Stanford.  Stanford said my lesion is not to small, but Kaiser said my lesion is too small to bother.  I am new to this as it started after a car accident and high speed spin out.  I was the victim of a hit and run.  The man hit me twice trying to get away first in the rear at 85-90 mph and then head on as my car spun out of control. He did get away, but left his car license number embedded into the bumper of my car.  Unfortunately, he had no insurance, no drivers license, and did not own the car.  Always try to get hit by someone with insurance if possible. That is if you even see it coming. Then try to remember it, that is another big one.  I have a police report to tell me what happened.  My memory is very different and was not even worthy of use in the case against the man during trial. I still manage to work and I am lucky to work my own hours and schedule.  It is not as glamourous as it sounds, I perform GPR for seismic upgrade and spend time in waste treatment plants, hanging off high rise buildings, etc. you get the idea.  I understand the difference between the shunt and resection of the lesion.  What I do not understand is whether or not our technology has evolved to a point that we can trust it to deliver our anticipated results with little or no excess damage of healthy tissue.
