Left Temporal Lobectomy and Brain Mapping

Fri, 07/21/2006 - 13:02
Hey all, Well, I have my surgery scheduled. I go in on the 21st of August for brain mapping and have the surgery on the 25th. I've read all the material out there about surgery AND brain mapping. What I'm wanting to know is...what was the brain mapping experience like for YOU? And also, I would love to hear YOUR surgery story! I would like to hear it ALL, the good, the bad and the everything. :) I want to hear about what you were going through while waiting on the surgery day to come and I also want to hear what you went through afterwards. (physically, emotionally, etc.) Yes, I'm nervous, scared, anxious, but ready to get this over with NOW! Looking forward to hearing from as many of you as possible. Love, Keri

Kelly, Keep me updated on your surgery. I think it's good to talk to those who have been there and are going through this. :) I am totally convinced that THE BIG GUY gives us only what we can handle and is there with us while we're going through this. :) Which I guess would make us "superwomen". Ha! Take care, Keri

Hi Keri... Good luck to you with your surgery...I'm sure you're very anxious...I hope you're one of the lucky ones that has the best outcome. My 8-year old daughter had a left temporal lobe resection last year at NYU Medical Center but unfortunately it did not do for her what we were praying for...the only positive outcome we had is that is decreased her clustering a bit...she does have some memory issues...but considering the risks of the surgery we knew about going into it...we are thankful... She is still having frequent seizures...this week was daily (sometimes twice daily)...the longest we've gone since the surgery was 5 weeks...but still constantly changing meds...so if we had it to do over again...I really don't know that I would...but that's our story...I really hope that yours is different!

Mjsmom, I can only imagine what you were feeling while she was going through this surgery. I have 3 kids of my own (ages 8, 10 and 12). I'm sorry to hear the surgery didn't do what you wanted it to do. Thank you for your encouraging words. I'm hoping this takes care of it. I don't want my kids coming home and finding me on the floor, because I'd had a seizure. That happened about 1 1/2 yrs ago and scared the "you know what" out of my oldest son. I can still remember the expression on his face. :( Take care, Keri
