I am currently on 200 mg 3 times a day of tegretol and1000mg of keppra. i have just been for my first ultrasound and everything is fine and my baby has a heartbeat of 115bpm which is normal. i have had epilepsy since age of 16. This i s second child, wasnt on keppra for 1st. Sopke to neuro, and he told me that so far he has been sent 50 cases of normalbirths i.e no malformatioms. All that i need todo is keep fluids up and have a few more ultrasounds. That is it!
So i am just crossing fingers.

I had my son a year ago. I sought advise from breastfeeding experts and doctors. They told me that the baby has been getting far more exposure to the drugs inside the womb than he will be getting through the breast milk, for one. Also, even if you only breast feed for a short time, it is a good way to ween the baby off the drugs. And third, the advantages of breastmilk outweigh the small amount of meds that seep into it, like I said he has been gettin git for 9 months anyway. If he is healthy, you know that breast feeding is safe. A good thing to thing to think about is how the side effects effect YOU. I was on Lamictal and Topamax. WEll, topamax caused weight loss. So, it caused my baby to have a small appetite as well. Born at 7 lb 2 oz, at 3 weeks old he was 6 lb 8 oz. I had to stop breastfeeding because of the side effect.
