pregnancy and keppra

Tue, 12/27/2005 - 13:01
Hello everyone I am 28 years old, female, with JME. My doctor has switched me from Depakote to Lamictal and now Keppra. I take Keppra 1000mg a day. Is there anyone, who is on Keppra, who is pregnant or who has had a baby. There is a ton of information of Lamictal and pregnancy but not much of Keppra and pregnancy. My husband and I want to start planning for a family, but we are VERY nervous. My ob/gyn put me on a prenatal vitamin and extra folic acid. I would appreciate any information from anyone. -aspepath

Ok ladies i been reading all this and really have not responded. I am 24 years old well wil be 24 this year. When i became pregnant in 2003 with my now 3 yaer old well she will be 3 next week lol, i developed epilepsy and to this day they can not tell me why. I am pregnant with my second baby and she is due in july. When i was prego with kylie my 3 year old i was on phenobarbitol (cant spell that dam thing lol) she was just fine no problems at all just when i had her she had with drawls for the first night or 2 she would shake once in a while. Well this pregnancy wasnt planned and its been hard. Last july i had a tumor removed and they told me there was a 70 percent chance that my seizures would stop and a 4 percent chance that it was canerous. Well still got the seizures and have the cancer but i am lucky they got all of the tumor so i dont have to do chemo or radiation but i do have to have mris every 3 months for the next about 10 years. Well my seizures have been a little worse and so my nero wanted to put me on keppra and right now i am just on 600mgs of dilatin i am kinda lucky, and i read all the side affects and did research about the side affects and well i am not taking it. I have gran mal seizures the really bad ones and they are bad. Its so hard because i just wish my family undestood more like my sister you know its just so hard. Every day i have to take 6 dilatin, 1 synthroid for my throid, 2 blood pressure meds, a heartburn one and 5 folic acid a day and its hard on me i hate taking pills. The baby is doing great as we speak she is kicking the heck out of my belly lol. I am 6 months and i guess it was just my choose my nerologist didnt like it to much but its my body and i already have alot of mood swings and being tired all the time you know. Social security there asses sorry but they are they act like oh all you have is these seizures there isnt no reason you can not work. all my life i have dont daycare or worked at a daycare and babysat and i cant do that i dont feel safe doing that. if you all want to talk to me about anything or have some questions feel free to e-mail me i would love to talk to you. I am so glad I stumbled upon this topic you have all given me so much hope. I hope all of you who were pregnant have had happy healthy babies. I am taking 300 mg. of lamictial and and 3500 of keppra. I am very worried as is my husband. This for me is the least medication I have ever been on so we are considering starting to try for a baby. I would like to post another on this topic cause I have noticed this post has slowed down a bit. Lots of comments from about a year ago. Thanks agian ~*Samantha*~
