lamictal for complex partial seizures

Thu, 05/12/2005 - 14:26
Dr. just suggested me to switch from trileptal to lamictal after 2 months of trial on trileptal, which seems doesn't work for me. Does anyone have well control of complex partial seizures using lamictal? Thanks.

Lisa, The doctors sent him for blood work to check his medication levels and also his liver.  It's just regular blood test they do every 6 months.  We had no signs at all.  He had been on it for almost a year when the blood test showed a problem.   He also was seizure free for all that time.  Too bad it was hurting his liver because it worked great for seizures.  Now this check his blood every week.  It is better since he went off but not completely normal.  Your doctor never does blood work?  I wonder why?  I'm sure it doesn't effect everyone that way.  Good luck!

Penny, I Just get regular blood work to check my trileptal and sodium level. Is it a different kind of level for the liver or is just a regular trileptal blood level that will show it?

thanks

Hi lisa,  I know it is in with his regular blood work that they do it but I think the Dr. has to ask them to do it because it is a separate blood test.  This week the Dr. said his liver count looked better.  So that was good news.  He is taking 100mg in the morning and at night along with the other 2 meds.  They are still upping the dose of Lamictal.  I would ask the dr.'s to do the liver blood test.    Wish i could help more.  Good luck.
