lamictal for complex partial seizures

Thu, 05/12/2005 - 14:26
Dr. just suggested me to switch from trileptal to lamictal after 2 months of trial on trileptal, which seems doesn't work for me. Does anyone have well control of complex partial seizures using lamictal? Thanks.

hey stonerock,

i too have just started takin lamactil. i started out on dilantin, that didnt work. then i was on keppra and dilantin and that worked for about 6 months. my doc decided to take me off dilantin and keep me only on keppra. i was fine for about 2 months then had a seizure. she upped my dosage to 1000mg 2x a day. i had another seizure. so we are tryin the combo of meds again. the lamactil and keppra. im on 1500mg 2x a day for the keppra and workin my way up to the 100mg 2x a day dosage. i will say this though, the lamactil has already helped me. last sunday, i started having a seizure. my right hand started twitchin like it always does, and usually my seizure spreads and before i black out i go through great pain. but on sunday, as i waited for the seizure to progress, it never did. my neuro said that is a good sign. instead of having a complex partial, i only had a partial. now speakin from experience, i would MUCH rather have the type of seizure i had on sun. than have the complex partial seizures. well i WOULD MUCH rather be seizure free, but if that goal is not attainable ill take the partials over the complex partials any day of the week. well best of luck and keep my informed of your progress. god bless you!

Hi Ed,

My son switched from the Trileptal to lamictal too and when first went on the Lamictal he too had a seizure but it didn't progress.  He has Complex Partial Seizures too.  He just seemed a little confussed but didn't have any lose on memory.  His dr. said it showed that it was working because it didn't spread.

Good luck
